This is a brief video of her.
As we started out on our hiking trip I realized that it was very windy but I decided to continue in our effort to grab some fresh air.
Once we rounded the corner from our home Aki began her usual questions. Honestly, I didn't believe that she knew which phrase that she was saying. I have extensive experience in speech therapy and was closed minded about animals associating language and word meaning to concepts. Now she has definitely taught me to see a broader picture!
I had heard about, read about and realized that some people tried to claim that their pet birds could understand human speech and use it to communicate. I wasn't buying it but I did find the hunch that these intelligent creatures were near the cognitive development stage of a 3 to 5 year old child.
About 5 minutes into our hike Aki started asking "What 'cha doing?" This is one of the phrases that she frequently uses throughout the day. After she repeated it and appeared to wait on my reply, I decided to tell her that we are going on a hike. She listened and seemed to wait while she digested those words. Then she let out a huge scream using her word, WHAT? It was so funny! It is a deep guttural sounding voice that has hints of frustration over not understanding.
So, we both broke out in laughter. Her laughter sounds more like a strange hen cackling with little gasps of air in between her cakles. Lol My laughter was that deep belly laugh that the sincerity is truly unmistakable.
I hope you enjoy this video. Please like it and hit the subscribe button to see new videos of Aki when they are released. She is truly an amazing animal.
Nothing but love!
